Malcolm was a member of the pop/electro group Fan Club from 1987-1991. The group released two albums, ‘Sensation’ and ‘Respect the Beat’; the latter taking them deeper into electronica and landing them at top 20 on the New York dance charts.
Malcolm was among the first in New Zealand to use computers to write, record and perform music. As well as playing conventional instruments, he and his bandmates utilised samplers, drum machines and analogue synthesizers in the mix. A MIDI set-up, programmed through an Atari, constituted their live performances. These attracted the biggest audiences in South East Asia where the group’s success reached award-winning proportions.
Malcolm now writes and records electronic music for advertisements.
